Since childhood, Sonja showed a passion for art and creativity. While she began with pencil sketches and paints early on, she quickly moved on to photography spending countless hours in a darkroom perfecting her craft. Today, Sonja spends much of her spare time doing freelance photography and web design work for numerous clients. Her work is a testament to the skill and creativity she spent so many years developing.
At DePaul University, Sonja studied Public Communications and Marketing. However, this decision did not come easily as she also excelled in both Photography and Business. Despite the early indecision, Sonja displayed an instant passion and aptitude for her studies. She graduated with high honors in June 2007. Throughout her college career she also received recognition for her studies and membership into several honors societies including:
- Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society
- National Dean’s List
- Golden Key Honors Society
- DePaul Dean’s List (2003-2007)
- National Society for Collegiate Scholars
Motivated to Succeed
While she wasn't studying, Sonja focused on building her professional career. In September, 2004 she began working with the Law Firm of Mendoza and Mueller as a Legal Assistant. During this time, she noticed ways to improve and gain a better return on the marketing efforts. After many hours of research and creative brainstorming, she pitched a new marketing campaign to the company partners. From then on, she was responsible for building and designing the firm's new website and promotional materials, compiling extensive databases for mailings, and writing advertising copy while still handling her responsibilities as an administrative assistant.
The extra responsibilities with the law firm kept Sonja behind the desk many hours a week. However, her passion for people left her craving more interaction with customers. Therefore, she took on an additional job at Rockit Bar and Grill as a server in order to fulfill that need. Not only did management recognize her hard work, they recognized her talent in marketing and customer service. She began working closely with the Marketing Director and Assistant General Manager on several different marketing projects including staff promotional events and industry trade shows.
Now, Sonja is ready for the next challenge life hands her; eager to take the next major step in her professional career; determined to show the world what she is made of.
